Ebook Battles - How You Can Tell a Real Author from a Cut and Paster?

The days of going to a bookstore and flicking through the pages of a potential purchase are getting left behind as the world of e-publishing grows bigger every day.

If you want to buy an ebook on any given topic you have two possible routes to a purchase.

1. Wade through a sales page

If the contents resonate with you and look like they meet your needs, its a good start. But are you reading the words of an authority on the matter, or are you falling pray to the ebook equivalent of a used car salesman?

Here are some safety checks that increase the odds of you getting good value from an ebook:

- does the author have an ezine?

If so, sign up and sit back. Within a few days youll know if his or her sales page claims are represented in the quality of their ezine content?

- do they offer a money-back guarantee?

If yes, check the small print and know that at least you can claim a refund if its not up to scratch. The odds are though, that an author who offers a guarantee has faith in their product.

- look at the bonuses

Are they really a bonus? Or are they the same old ebook freebies that many sales pages offer that have little or nothing to do with the product?

Good bonuses are supportive of, and relevant to the ebook youre thinking about buying. For genuine and experienced authors, good bonus are easy enough to provide.

The cut and pasters lurking in ebook land are more likely to pile a sales page high with bonus offers that you can find free for yourself - if you know where to look.

2. The Good Old-Fashioned Independent Review

The reviews on an ebook sales page may read very nicely, and they may sound very convincing, they may also be made up!

Its easy to make up a name and location and a few words of praise. Just as easy as cutting and pasting info from multiple sources and calling it an ebook in fact.

Visiting a third party review site may just be your best bet. Recent statistics show that 7-10% of potential ebook purchasers are happier buying from an independent review site - I dont blame them!
