Adsense Needs Sense ; Not Luck

'How Lucky were you today' ran a headline in one of the popular webmaster forums. The discussion was about how lucky some people were to make a huge sum inspite of the fact that they still had a comparatively less number of clicks.

Less Clicks. That is bound to happen. How many clicks can you otherwise expect for a startup? You barely manage to get some traffic, and now getting those few to hit your ad is even more difficult. So, atleast till you master the tricks of the trade, it is unlikely that you get too many clicks.

How should you then make the most out of it? This is a question not just for these new startup sites, but also for every webmaster as making the most from a single click is anyone's prayer.

One thing you could do is buy some software that you could search off Google and use it to find the top paying keywords. But, I'll tell you one way which is always bound to be the most updated and most rewarding. It is called Google Adwords

Heard of Adsense. But what is Adwords? This is the mother program to Adsense. The advertisers on Google use Adwords to bid for keywords. And these ads are shown on your adsense page. When a click is made, the Adwords publisher pays Google the bid amount and you receive a share of it.

You would already know all this elementary stuff. The point is how you make use of this in your Adsense program. Well, Adwords has a fantastic interface that allows advertisers to bid on a keyword. What you primarily do is signup as an advertiser, enter your keyword, and then bid on your amount.

Don't you think you can make use of this. For this, follow my advise. First download Google's Adsense preview tool. This allows you to view the kind of ads that would appear on your page for the quality of content that you have. From those ads, you can have an idea of what kind of keyword you have primarily targeted(ok, you already knew what your focus keyword was. This is just a cross check).

Now, type in these keywords on the Adwords keyword list area. You can now bid for that particulr keyword. You can never be sure how much such a keyword would fetch you since Google does not disclose this. However, the higher the amount an advertiser pays for a click, the higher you get as a publisher.

While you enter the bid amount try the lowest bid amonut where the bid is accepted. If you enter values lower than this, Adwords does not accept your bid. After you try out this procedure for quite a lot of keywords, choose the keyword for which the minimum bid amount accepted is the highest. This will fetch you the highest value per click. If this keyword happens to be different from the one for your page, try formatting your page till you get ads relevant to that keyword.
