Marketing Your Website - An Introduction

OK - so you have a website, youve designed it, youve added nice graphics, photos and youve written some fantastic content for it now the money is going to roll in .. well think again the most difficult part of making money on the internet is not the content or building the website its the Marketing of your site.

You need to be seen. The only way for this to happen is to let people know you are here. There are three main ways to do this

i) Get yourself seen on a search engine(s)
ii) Release a press type article / review on a Blog
iii) Write an article on your websites subject and post it on an article directory site

Or you could do a combination of all three.

There are books and websites dedicated to each of these methods in their own right but as a brief introduction;

i) Search Engines You need to get your Website address onto as many other websites as you can, the more places on the web that your Website address is shown the more the search engines will take notice of you. The two main search engines are Google and Yahoo, you really need to get onto these sites and can do this in 2 ways

a) as mentioned above get your website address onto as many other sites as you can or

b) buy into a marketing programme with these sites where you pay or bid for a space on their search engine. You can set budgets for these programmes paying as little as 10p (or 10c) every time someone clicks on your advert and gets diverted through to your site. Plus you can set a budget ceiling so you will not spend any more than you want in any day, week or month. Both of these search engines have very good customer support including training aids and videos showing you just how to use their products and how they can help you.

ii) Blogs are a great way to put your thoughts down on the web in a diary/journal format but they are also great marketing tools where you can submit your thoughts, details and teaser information from your site along with your website address (shortcut) enabling the reader to be directed to your homepage. Plus the more blogs you have with your website address on the more the search engines see you etc etc

iii) Articles Writing short articles on your websites subject is another great way to get your website noticed this is similar to Blogs but more structured and has more rules and standards to adhere to but you can add your details and your website to the foot of your article for readers to click through on and another place for the search engines to take notice of !
