You can get into trouble in a conversation if you listen only to the content of what is being said. Trouble such as debating, arguing and nitpicking. Really can't recommend any of those.

The Law of Heart, Part 1

You really can't go wrong if you listen for the "heart" of what is being said. It's really not that difficult to do. Just answer the question, "What could my partner be feeling right now?"

The Law of Heart, Part 2

For a successful relationship it's crucial to learn all you can about communication, relationships, etc. The skills and techniques of intimacy are learnable and, unlike our parents, we live in a society where we all have access to the information. All the skills and techniques will not make much difference, however, without your heart being in the right place. For some that requires a change of heart.

The Law of "Couple First"

We have several friends who are preparing for their first child. One good piece of advice for them is, in the midst of all the changes about to take place, commit to making time for each other. The couple relationship still needs to be taken care of, even now.

The Law of Roommates

Many couples with whom I work started out as soul mates and wound up feeling like roommates. You get to feeling like roommates by neglecting your relationship and taking each other for granted. It's a slow and unintentional process.

The Law of Soul Mates

The good news is that the trip back from roommates to soul mates is possible and very doable. It does require conscious attention, however.
